POLTERGEIST PLANK
A medium has been brought in to cleanse a dangerous spirit from a chest. This chest is introduced as an object from Ryker’s Island, NY. Inside this chest are a few old items one might have inside a prison cell. The performer (the psychic) says, “The guards claim that the chest moves on its own and needs to be destroyed, but before it was, I purchased it to show you.” The chest is shown, and you explain that the movements are sometimes quick, but mostly have a very slow duration. The psychic says, “I have recently devised a way for us to witness this movement. This little block is leaned against the chest. If this chest moves in any direction, the block will fall alerting us.” The psychic begins the ritual and arranges a few things around the table. Then, suddenly, the block tips up indicating the chest has moved. The block is quickly leaned against the chest again. As the psychic cleanses the chest, the block stands up, then tips over to fall to the floor.
Note:
The Poltergeist Plank is not a trick itself; It’s a tool to use along with something else. If used properly, the plank will scare everyone just by tipping over. It’s important to use this much like the scenario listed above. The spectators’ attention is on the haunted chest and not the plank at all. This way people will watch the chest, and then the block will move, causing the unexpected.
Poltergeist Plank is a creation of Andrew de Ruiter. It has no real need to be turned over to use during performance. The block is set up before-hand and can remain upright until you want it to tip over, making this a true magician-fooler. Completely self-contained, the secret does all the work for you. The block can be handled by anyone.
