The world’s most famous detective, and you are one step ahead of him. Your spectator gets all twelve stories in a complete 260-page edition and chooses any page and any line they like. The deduction is yours; the counting is the app’s.

Ask for a page. Ask for a line. They count down and lock the word in their head. You already have it: page 47, line 12 is “cigarette”, and it was on your wrist while they were still counting.
How it works
- Your spectator freely names any page and any line. No force, no limited choice, no restrictions.
- You enter the numbers on your phone’s keypad, or silently in your pocket with the AR Pro-Remote (coming soon).
- There is no send key. The answer fires the moment the entry is complete, and a wrong digit tells you at once.
- The word appears on your phone and on your Galaxy Watch, followed by the page and line so you can confirm it.
- If the line they chose has no word that fits your rule, the app moves to the next one and tells you, so you can steer them there without counting a thing.
- Chapter headings don’t count as lines. Every other printed line of text does, exactly the way a spectator counts.
Make it yours
- Choose your word rule: first word of 6 or more letters, first word, last word, or longest word.
- Have InkSight print the word on a slip, so the prediction is already written when they finish counting.
- Trigger another Arcane Relics prop at the moment of the reveal.
- Add your own notes to the reveal.
- Dim the watch to a deep red at 5% brightness, or black it out, so a glance at your wrist is just someone checking the time.
The book
All twelve stories, from A Scandal in Bohemia to The Adventure of the Copper Beeches, in a clean classic edition with Sidney Paget’s 1891 Strand portrait of Holmes and his pipe on the cover. It is a complete, normal-looking edition of the novel, and nothing in it but the novel: no marks, no codes, no lists at the back. Hand it out, leave it on a shelf, let them keep it.

Most importantly of all, it really LOOKS authentic – but then, of course, it really did come from Holmes ‘s Murder Castle(!?!). It’s the sort of prop which adds the right amount of “atmosphere” to a performance; a mixture of intrigue, puzzlement, authenticity whist being ‘unsettling’. It’s very well constructed and aged. Importantly, it doesn’t betray the devilment that hides inside. As with all such props, it is what you the performer makes of it and with it that matters. Let HHH ring it for you – if you dare.

I’ve always loved the idea of the rapping hand, but have never liked the ones that I’ve seen in the past; they just seemed too contrived.
This version is the first one that I’ve seen that actually made any sense, so I knew that I had to add this to my arsenal, but I’ve learned that in the realm of bizarre effects, what you actually receive doesn’t always live up to the hype. Not this time…this is an AMAZING piece, and far exceeded my hopes and expectations!
An amazing idea from John Ferrentino, and incredible craftsmanship from Chris Sipes…
